Memory Observatory

At the former Cala d’Oliva Central Branch is the Observatory of Memory, a small exhibit that illustrates some aspects of life in the penal colony.

The space, officially opened in 2017, is centered in one of the dormitories used as inmates’ dormitories during the prison years and houses a number of display cases with personal belongings, work tools and medical instrumentation that tell, as if in short frames, the prison reality in the specific context of the island.

The Memory Observatory represents one of the key steps in the broader project of enhancing the historical and cultural heritage of Asinara.
